Public hearings on the status of waterfowl populations and proposed waterfowl hunting seasons for the State of Vermont and Lake Champlain zone in New York will be held Tuesday, March 12, in Whitehall, New York and March 14 in Winooski, Vermont.

This was another successful year for Vermont’s bald eagles with 23 known nesting pairs producing at least 33 successful young according to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department.

Vermonters love to see birds around their home, and putting out bird feeders is a popular way to attract our feathered friends to back yards. Vermont is among the top states in the country for people who report feeding and watching birds near their home.

Bird-lovers are invited to join the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department at the Dead Creek Visitor Center in Addison to learn more about bird banding and conservation.

A Barnet man has been indicted for shooting a bald eagle in July 2018. Bald eagles are listed as State endangered, and the charge comes with $1,222 in fines and restitution, along with a three-year loss of hunting, fishing and trapping licenses upon conviction.

Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department staff will lead an evening bird-watching paddle at the Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area in Addison, Vermont on Wednesday, September 26 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is asking boaters and anglers to give loons a hand this summer by enjoying them from a safe distance.

We encourage landowners to help promote these beloved species and give these birds a chance to complete their nesting season simply by altering the times of year that they mow large fields.
