Vermont Wildlife Course for Educators

This interactive field course gets educators out into Vermont’s streams, forests and wetlands with some of the state’s leading natural resource experts taking place at the Buck Lake Conservation Camp in Woodbury VT.

Now in its 37th year, “Wildlife Management and Outdoor Education Techniques for Educators,” is a one-week, three-credit graduate course taught by Vermont Fish and Wildlife and other Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) staff through Castleton University. Click here to read more.

Wildlife Management for Educators- Part 1

This course takes a hands-on, experiential approach to teaching pre- kindergarten through twelfth grade and non-formal educators about fish and wildlife management and outdoor education techniques.

A one-week course held in July at the Buck Lake Green Mountain Conservation Camp, for formal, non-formal, and pre-service educators of all disciplines and grade levels. Educators interested in integrating environmental topics into their curriculum can learn about Vermont's wildlife and fisheries from professional biologists, foresters and educators through hands-on activities.

Three Graduate-level credits from Castleton University are available. There is also a non-credit option.

Outdoor Family Weekend 2020- CANCELED

Join this dynamic and engaging weekend that offers fun for the whole family in the great outdoors! Expert instructors lead workshops on a variety of topics in outdoor recreation, conservation, and ecology with a focus on nurturing family relationships. Instructors provide hands-on experience and encourage participants to ask questions. The variety of classes includes wildlife, forestry, orienteering and GPS, hiking, fitness, camping skills, kayaking, firearm safety, fishing, and much, much more.

This program is a joint effort by UVM Extension and the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Forests, Parks and Recreation to promote, address, and instill in the general public a basic understanding of environmental conservation, safety and fun in the out-of-doors. Deadline to Apply- Junior Waterfowl Hunter Training Program

The Junior Waterfowl Hunter Training Program is a joint educational effort of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, the Sportsman’s Club of Franklin County and volunteers to teach young hunters about waterfowl hunting. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible, respected individuals who strive to learn all they can about waterfowl and to become knowledgeable in firearms safety, hunter ethics and wildlife conservation.

Mentors and youths who would like to participate in this year's program must pre-register with the Refuge by Friday, August 6. Participation in the program will be limited to 30 enrollees.

Deadline to Apply- Turkey Hunting Ed Weekend for Adults, May 24, 25, 26

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is hosting a hunter education weekend for adults that will be focused on turkey hunting during the final weekend of Vermont’s spring turkey hunting season, May 24, 25 and 26.

 

The event will be held at the Northwood’s Stewardship Center, 154 Leadership Dr, Island Pond, VT 05846. 

 

A $60 fee will cover food and lodging for participants who may stay in the bunkhouse or in their own tent.
