Intro to Hunting Class

THINKING ABOUT LOCALLY GROWN-ORGANIC MEAT?

WONDERING IF WILD GAME WOULD PROVIDE THAT PROTEIN SOURCE?

NEVER HUNTED BEFORE AND AT A LOSS AS HOW TO APPROACH YOUR OPTIONS?

Then we have the answer for you. The NorthWoods Stewardship Center, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA) & Vermont Fish & Wildlife Conservation Group (VTFWCG) is sponsoring a one and a half day, with overnight, intro to hunting. This class is geared to those with no hunting experience, background or mentored family support.

Wild game, harvested where you live, is the premiere choice for healthy, organic protein. How one gets it “from field to fork” can be confusing to the non-hunter.

We can help you. Local staff of the sponsoring organizations will provide the knowledge, tools and strong foundation, in a safe environment, to start your journey into harvesting wild game. You will leave with a HUNTER SAFETY EDUCATION CERTIFICATION, which allows you to purchase a license to hunt in any state.

DATES: Sat. & Sun. September 22 & 23, 2018 ( Overnight Stay Required )

LOCATION: Northwoods Stewardship Center, 154 Leadership Drive, 10 Mile Square Rd, East Charleston, VT

Hunter Education Instructor Training Course

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is offering a New Instructor Training Course for people interested in volunteering to teach Hunter Education, Trapper Education or Bowhunter Education courses in Vermont.

The training will take place Saturday, September 15, at 8:00 a.m. at the Deerfield Valley Fish & Game Club in Whitingham, Vermont.

Policies and procedures, field techniques and teaching methods will be covered to give instructors the tools to teach future hunters how to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

“The skills and ethics that our instructors impart to their students will serve them for a lifetime,” said Training Coordinator, John Pellegrini.  “There is no better way for a hunter to give back to the outdoors than by instructing the next generation of hunters.”

All applicants are required to pass a background check with a warden and apprentice-teach with a Chief Instructor before they can teach on their own.  Upon course completion, they will receive their full State of Vermont Hunter Education Instructor certification.  Applicants may choose to teach a real course at the Deerfield Valley Fish & Game Club the very next day.

“Our hunter education instructors are all volunteers, donating their time to pass on a cherished Vermont tradition,” said Pellegrini.  “The hours our instructors put in will leverage federal dollars that enable the Hunter Education Program to function.  Early fall is a great time to take this training, as there will be plenty of courses to help with.”

Those planning to attend should sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/NIT2018 or call 802-828-1193 at least one week prior to the course date.

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.  Please include a description of the accommodation you will need and include your contact information.  Requests should be made as early as possible.  Please send an email to John.Pellegrini@vermont.gov or call the office staff at 802-828-1193 (voice) or 1-800-253-0191 (TTY).
