Ruffed grouse are found throughout Vermont.
Spruce grouse are only found in isolated pockets in Essex County. These pockets include the Conte National Wildlife Refuge, Wenlock Wildlife Management Area , Victory Basin WMA and Victory State Forest.
Bottom line: If you’re hunting in areas where spruce grouse live, be sure you know which is which.
