Date: Sunday, October 22 10:00AM-12:00PM
Location: Bolton, VT
Have you ever wondered what forest stand improvement looks like? Join Women Owning Woodlands-VT and Alyssa Bennett, Vermont Fish & Wildlife Biologist and WOW-VT forestry demonstration landowner, on a hike around her land in Bolton to see a one-year-old crop tree release and wildlife improvement project.
Alyssa will discuss her goals for the forest improvement project and how Vermont’s nine bat species use forested habitat. We will discuss microhabitat features such as tree cavities and peeling bark to stand-level features such as openings and canopy closure all the way up to habitat connectivity at the landscape level.
By the end of this outing, you will be able to think like a bat! Please dress for the weather and wear footwear appropriate for rocky, steep, and sometimes wet terrain, including stepping over downed trees and branches. This is a family-friendly event for all ages and even friendly, well-behaved dogs are allowed on leash.
