Owl Banding- 10/18 Event is Canceled

Learn why we band owls and some of the techniques that are used. This is a popular evening and participants are asked to attend only one of the two dates. Come for the evening or just half an hour. 

Location: Near Snake Mountain. Approximately 1.5 miles east on route 17 from the intersection of Route 17 and 22A in Addison (see map). There will be signage as you near the location.

Kids Fishing Derby - Winooski

This event is part of the department’s Children’s Fishing Program, designed to give kids the opportunity for a fun and successful fishing experience. The event is sponsored by a local organization and the department provides 8 to 10” stocked trout for the kids to test out their angling skills.

Work Weekend at Buck Lake Conservation Camp

Date: May 18, 2019 and 19, 2019
Time: Saturday from 9:00am - 5:00pm with lunch break and Sunday from 9:00am – Noon
Location: Buck Lake Camp - 1051 Buck Lake Road, Woodbury, VT

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is looking for volunteers to help get the GMCC Conservation Camps ready for the 2019 season by helping with general repairs, construction, landscaping, painting, plumbing, cooking, firewood, electrical work, and gardening

Volunteers can participate for as long as they are able to – one hour, one day or both days. They are welcome to stay overnight in onsite cabins or they can bring their own tents.  Lunch and dinner will be provided. 

This is an excellent community service opportunity for boy scout and girl scout groups, as well has high school and college clubs.

Join us at Dead Creek WMA for a morning of song bird banding!

Come learn why we band song birds in a hands on atmosphere while also getting an opportunity to practice your bird ID and much more! This event is possible thanks to a partnership with Otter Creek Audubon and numerous volunteers! Bird bander Rodney Olson of Vergennes will lead the banding workshop.  Members of the public will help identify the birds, observe the banding process, and help release the birds after they are banded.

School groups interested in participating should contact Corey Hart at corey.hart@vermont.gov.

Follow the signs from the Dead Creek Visitor Center to the parking/banding area.
