Public Information Meeting on Draft Trapping Regulation Changes

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department has scheduled a public information meeting on draft changes to the state’s trapping regulations.

Date: Tuesday, November 29, 2022
Time: 6:30 - 9:00 pm on Tuesday, November 29.
Location: White River Valley High School, 223 S. Windsor St., South Royalton | map

Read the VFWD Trapping BMP Draft Recommendations and Stakeholder Recommendation Synopsis

The draft regulation changes are responsive to Act 159, which directed the Commissioner of Fish and Wildlife to identify ways to improve the welfare of trapped animals and propose updated regulations to the Legislature and the Fish and Wildlife Board.

The November 29 meeting is not a referendum on trapping but an opportunity for the public to provide early feedback on draft changes to the regulations.

The draft changes draw from a recently completed series of meetings with a range of stakeholders and the best available trapping data and research.

Department staff will review this input before the Commissioner advances a proposal to the Fish and Wildlife Board for deliberation.

A formal public comment window will occur when the Board begins its official rulemaking process in early 2023.

November 29, 2022 - 6:30 PM - November 29, 2022 - 9:00 PM

Using Vermont Conservation Design to Help Plan Your Town's Climate Future

Vermont Conservation Design was first released in 2016 and has been used by towns across the state to identify landscape patterns of connected forests and waters as well as community and species hotspots. Vermont Conservation Design certainly does show these areas of current biological diversity but also speaks to climate resilience into the future. Join Community Wildlife Program staff to learn how these concepts come together and how you can use Vermont Conservation Design on the BioFinder website to better plan for your town’s climate future.
