Junior Warden Weekend

Teens ages 15-17 are invited to come learn up close how our Game Wardens contribute to conservation in Vermont. Participants will spend the weekend fishing, hiking, exploring mock crime scenes, and seeing K-9 units in action.

Wildlife Management for Educators

This course takes a hands-on, experiential approach to teaching pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade and non-formal educators about fish and wildlife management and outdoor education techniques.

Educators interested in integrating environmental topics into their curriculum can learn about Vermont's wildlife and fisheries from professional biologists, foresters and educators through hands-on activities

Junior Waterfowl Hunter Training Program

The Junior Waterfowl Hunter Training Program is a joint educational effort of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, the Sportsman’s Club of Franklin County and volunteers to teach young hunters about waterfowl hunting. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible, respected individuals who strive to learn all they can about waterfowl and to become knowledgeable in firearms safety, hunter ethics and wildlife conservation.

Participation in the program will be limited to 30 enrollees.

All mentors and young hunters must attend the one-day training session on Saturday, August 17, with instruction beginning at 8:00 AM at the Franklin County Sportsman’s Club on Route 36 (Maquam Shore Road) in St. Albans.

Youth Upland Challenge

Youth hunters (ages 15 and under) will be challenged in marksmanship, upland bird hunting and knowledge. 

Challenge 1: Test your hunting skills on upland birds in the field.

Challenge 2: Test your shooting skills with a .22 rifle.

Challenge 3: Mystery challenge. Only 16 tickets available

Participants and accompanying adult will be required to have a current Vermont hunting license.

Junior Warden Weekend

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department will be offering Junior Warden Weekend to be held at the Edward F. Kehoe Conservation Camp in Castleton on July 27-28.

The weekend is open to ages 15-17 and is the perfect way for teens to unplug and engage with peers outdoors before heading back to the classroom.  The weekend is capped at 25 participants, but there is still space for new registrants.  

The cost for the weekend is $125, which includes all meals.  Sponsorships are available on a limited basis.

Vermont Wildlife Course for Educators

Vermont’s popular fish and wildlife summer course for teachers and other educators will be held July 14-19, 2024. 

The interactive field course that gets educators out into Vermont’s streams, forests and wetlands with some of the state’s leading natural resource experts takes place at the Buck Lake Conservation Camp in Woodbury. 

Now in its 39th year, “Wildlife Management and Outdoor Education Techniques for Educators,” is a one-week course taught by Vermont Fish and Wildlife and other Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) staff through Vermont State University.
