What are the responsibilities of a Junior Counselor?
- Classroom and instruction assistance
- Cabin duties such as wake-up call and nighttime supervision
- Kitchen assistance
- Camp physical improvements
While at camp, even during their recreational and free time, JCs represent the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department.
JCs are nominated by GMCC staff during Advanced Weeks.
JC Step Program
The JC “Step Program” encourages continual personal and professional growth for JCs by enabling them to take on more responsibility as they progress through the program.
New and returning JCs, this section is for you!

2023 COVID-19 Notice: Due to COVID-19 and the requirements necessary to keep staff, JCs, and campers safe and healthy, please be aware that although registration will open with all camp weeks available to the full number of campers and JCs, we will be following any guidance relating to summer camps released by the Vermont Department of Health and the Governor’s office. There is an inherent risk of contracting COVID-19 in any place where people gather, including at GMCC. If at any point we deem that it is no longer safe for JCs and campers to be present at camp due to COVID-19, we will cancel the session and send all JCs and campers home immediately. We may or may not be able to schedule JCs for additional weeks depending on availability. Any necessary last minute cancellations on the part of the JC will be accommodated.
Any questions regarding the JC Program or Orientation can be directed to Hannah.Phelps@vermont.gov or 802-249-4199.
Thank you and we look forward to having you as part of our staff this summer!
